This week, the first “brain gym” in the Netherlands opens in Haarlem. At LuciDT you train not only your body, but also your brain. From older adults who want to stay sharp and vital to ambitious professionals who want to perform better under pressure: everyone is welcome. This marks a first for the Netherlands.
The method
With the opening of LuciDT, the Netherlands gets its first place where movement and cognitive tasks are structurally combined. Think memory games while running on a treadmill, reaction training with light-up pods, and VR headsets that challenge you to maintain focus in a game-like environment. The NeuroTracker, known from elite sports in the U.S., is now being applied in the Netherlands for the first time to sharpen not only the body but especially the mind. This is more relevant than ever in a society that demands more of us, where sharpness and resilience are essential.
What is CMDT?
CMDT stands for Cognitive Motor Dual-Task Training: a method where you challenge your brain and body at the same time. While you move, you perform thinking or attention exercises. This combination strengthens your focus, memory, reaction speed, and balance. The result? You notice progress more quickly in daily life—from reacting more sharply to moving with greater confidence. CMDT is also suitable for people who, after a period of illness such as long COVID, want to gradually improve their fitness and mental well-being. During training, everything is monitored—from heart rate to reaction speed—so your progress is measurable.
Stimulating new brain connections
According to founder Dr. Gil Suzin, this is the way to improve brain health: “By challenging brain and body simultaneously, you stimulate the formation of new neural connections. You notice progress more quickly—whether you want to strengthen your memory, improve your balance, or become mentally fitter for a demanding job. You can compare your brain to muscles: they also become stronger through training.”
Two programs: Flourish and Thrive
LuciDT offers two programs: Flourish (for healthy aging) and Thrive (for top professionals). Both consist of twelve 50-minute sessions with personal guidance and a home module to extend the effect.
About the founder
Dr. Gil Suzin (PhD) is an authority in brain health. He has worked worldwide before recently settling in the Netherlands. In October, he will speak about Dual-Task Training at a symposium at the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM) in Chicago. He is registered with the Dutch Institute of Psychologists (NIP) and has an AGB registration, so depending on your insurance policy, you can often get (part of) the costs reimbursed through your health insurer.
